Onshore Manufacturing begins to make sense

Back when manufacturers began moving or “Off-Shoring” their production facilities overseas, there was speculation that until the wages of US workers dropped to the same level of Chinese laborers, we would not see manufacturing come back to the USA. Fortunately, major corporations are beginning to looking at more than just wages when evaluating ways to stay competitive in an increasingly global economy.

Transportation costs, quality control, management oversight and travel time, along with overall production and timely shipping concerns are beginning to be added to the “bottom line” of importance. All this is good news for retailers in the United States.

Here is a very interesting article from Paul Davidson of USA Today, titled “Some manufacturing heads back to USA”.

Please feel free to share your ideas and comments on this subject, there is so much still to be done to bring jobs and hope back to American workers.

Money Saving Tip #2: US Post Office

The other day, I was amazed to hear from a local businesswoman she had not explored printing her Priority Mail labels using the US Post Office’s online system. Not only can you use Priority Mail shipping packages and boxes for free, you will be able to track and notify recipients via email at no extra charge.

When you set up an account, you will be able to charge your postage to a credit card, create single or batch orders, save addresses to an Address Book, and select many options like insurance and signature receipts easily. You can also have a postal carrier pickup packages at your location.

Go to https://sss-web.usps.com/cns/landing.do to learn more about the conveniences and discounts available to help streamline and cut down on mailing costs.

Sealed Dividers to Protect Valuable Shipments

As everyone knows, freight damages can be quite problematic and costly at times. There is an interesting solution available which creates basically a wall barrier between your shipment and the other shipments sharing your freight carrier’s trailer.

You can contact vendors such as, Unishippers for more information on this program to organize your shipments to be loaded into the nose of a trailer and sealed in with a divider system. This alternative approach offers protection for your valuable  furniture and accessory products. Your order will remain in the trailer untouched until delivered to final location. All at a cost which I understand is more reasonable than white glove and air ride services. This service is available nation-wide.
